Dietary Supplement Certificate of Compliance

Dietary Supplements Safety CertificateThe Health foods and dietary supplements are categorized as products of food standards that are consumed for the purpose of maintaining good health by supplementing nutrients. The health foods and dietary supplements are not subject to the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act. Under the Food Sanitation Act, sales of products that contain harmful or toxic substances or with poor hygiene are prohibited in Japan. Sales of health foods and dietary supplements in containers and packaging are subject to mandatory labeling under the Food Sanitation Act, and provisions concerning safety labeling such as indication of food additives, ingredients and quality labeling of health foods and dietary supplements, must be in Japanese language and conform to Japanese health laws and regulations.

The Japan Inspection Organization (JIO) issues Certificate of Compliance after laboratory testing, for Health foods and Dietary Supplements manufacturers in Japan, to ensure health food and dietary supplement safety through testing and evaluating products to help ensure their quality and safety.

Japan Inspection Organization (JIO) led the development for only Japanese Standard for Health foods and dietary supplements to ensure that health food and dietary supplements that do not contain unacceptable levels of contaminants. The Japan Inspection Organization provides Certificate of Compliance to health foor and dietary supplements that comply instructions and regulations set by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan.

In order to apply Certificate of Compliance at this Organization, The Health foods and Dietary Supplement must be tested at a laboratory within Japan that recognized by Japan Inspection Organization. The copy of test result (s) duly signed and stamp by an authorized inspector must by attached with the application form.

This Organization do not issue Certificate of Compliance as well as Safety Certificate for Health foods and Dietary Supplement that manufacture, packed, or labeled at overseas countries. Only Health foods and Dietary Supplements manufacturers based in Japan, having research facility, manufacturing plant and packing within Japan are eligible to apply for Certificate of Compliance.
